The English Speaking Community

Annual Report 2013-2014

The English Speaking community is a multi-national congregation comprising mainly Filipino Domestic Helpers, expatriate workers, overseas Chinese staying in Hong Kong and local people. Our parish activities enrich the spiritual life of community members and enable them to socialize in a place far away from their homeland.

Fr. Josekutty Mathew was our spiritual advisor and attended our monthly meetings. As part of the Year of Faith programs for the English Community, we had organized a monthly Faith Formation Program, using the 10 volumes of the DVD “Catholicism”,  and certificates were awarded to participants with 90% attendance.

At the conclusion of the Faith Formation Program, Fr. Mathew started a monthly Adult Catechism class to enhance our knowledge of Catholic faith. This year, we invited parishioners from different parishes within our deanery to attend the Lenten Recollection in our parish. We also hosted a Diocesan English Youth Mass & Fellowship, organized by the Diocesan English Youth. It was attended by young people from other churches.

Mr. Anthony Chan, the music director of the English Choir, organized the 1 + 1 Evangelization Concert which attracted a big audience.

The following groups with members serving a 2-year term are responsible for most of the parish activities for the English speaking community:

Coordinating Group

The Coordinating Group coordinates major activities of the English speaking community and acts as a link between the English and the Chinese communities through the Parish Council. Mrs. Susie Cheng, Mrs. Grace Chan and Mrs. Marian Sun were the elected chair-ladies of the community.  Mr. Joseph Poon is our representative to the council and Mrs. Adelia Poon is our treasurer. The secretary of the community is Ms. Marilou Jamoyot.
